Access Door Changes

We have made modifications to the staircases in Callisto such that you can now access the basements and sub basement without having to leave the building.

The staircases are now fully integrated into the Callisto building and we have access readers from the basements into the building.

The reason for this is:

  • Coming out of the building and back in poses a risk to residents as they have to go onto the street and then back into the complex; therefore having the ability to go directly into the lobby area reduces risk
  • These doors were also a security risk with many people using the doors to avoid getting captured on the CCTV system, this was certainly the case for the apartments we have identified as being used for AirBnB
  • The doors (at the front especially) were dangerous in high winds and often the closers would snap off and the restraining straps, this was subsequently damaging the brickwork of the building

We have converted the doors that go onto the street from the stairwells into emergency exit doors; that way they are still usable in the event of an emergency but are not access points into the building.
The other door that accesses Callisto from street level that is at the top of Ryland Street and the door down the side of the building into the garage have been changed into a "Step Free" access with a request to enter button added.
When you call concierge requesting access to the building if we do not recognise you as being a resident then we may ask for details such as name and apartment to verify you live in the building.
